Ever tried manipulating it? Or do you just tweak the dial while drinking your scotch?

You mean the dial and lock got mixed up? Because the dial has a clear IV on it...
Cheers

What is the differences between the 2 that let you tell them apart?

For a start the serial number on the back of the lock ends in M3 , the MKIV has a piece of lead stuck on the side by the wheel pack to stop X ray of the wheels from the side . The lock cap on the MKIV has a horseshoe shaped clip to stop the cap being taken off with the lock bolt in the locked position.

Interesting. Mine from 1980 has MK 4 and my one from 1972 has M4 P. Would you happen to know what the P means? It looks like it was stamped at a later date.

Won't be a P more likely to be a badly stamped R , R after the serial number means it has been refurbished at some point

Not too bad. I got both of mine including instructions and change key for 60 GBP so their price is a bit high.

Wow £395 is a lot of money , especially as they are a government authorised disposal company for office furniture and have just taken them off old cabinets.

This is who I bought mine from.
