text from posting in craigslist

I bought a house with a huge old Yale safe (60" high, 36" wide, 31" deep) in the garage. While it has wheels, I estimate it weighs 2000-2500 lbs. It has double doors with a brass dial.
I don't know the combination and don't know what's inside.
I'm looking for someone who can 1) crack open the safe, than 2) take the safe away. The successful safe cracker keeps 25% of the contents and removes the safe itself.
The safe is located in a street level garage, approximately 10 feet from the street.

That would be fun! Bring it up to Washington State and I'll do it.
Take some pictures of the inside once it's opened so we can see.

Good luck

Won't be me cracking it, I still am a noob in just picking locks!

Never attempted manipulation ever, I posted this for someone here to grab!

Bet it weighs a lot more than 2000-2500 pounds! Kilograms, maybe. That baby looks solid!

That'd be a neat opportunity if you're in the area! But yeah, I'd certainly be at
a loss when it came to moving it, lol. Maybe if you were to tell him you'd give
up the 25% of contents that he offered... he'd allow just an opening without
being obligated to move it ;) I'm sure his curiosity would allow for that.

Sure he'd love to have somebody figure out the combination so he'd have a working safe with combo to sell.

at first glance it appears to be a National.

Cool find! But from the posting, it sounds like the safe was there with the house--unless he inherited the house or bought it out of foreclosure, etc. I would seriously doubt there is anything in there. I found a locked safe, toiled to open it, and of course found nothing.

I'd ask for the back story on the safe and try to guess the probability there is something in there before being on the hook for the cost of moving the thing. Otherwise, you open it triumphantly, get 25% of the stale air inside, and are now stuck with the expense of moving it.

A creative way to get someone else to move unwanted junk....

but that junk might be cool to someone they hope!

I hate to be the pessimist, but it could be! But stuff like this is still sexy because it captures the imagination...

Seems like a good offer might be to call the guy and say, "hey I'm happy to come open this thing for you, however, I do not want it. The methods I use are non-destructive so you will be left with a working safe you can sell. I'll only take 10% instead of 25% since I am not hauling it off." See what they say! It's actually a better deal for them if they thinik it has stuff inside it! If they are looking for a free junk collector, it might become obvious at that point.

Good info, Bitbuster! Would you guess the lock to be a basic yale 3-wheel with Group 2-like manipulation resistance? I have an ancient 3-wheel Yale with offset dial, but I have yet to mount and manipulate it.

just as a guess i think the lock could be a yale 026. it has 4 wheels and a front mounted driver. no offset.
on another note, i went to the specified ad in sf-bay area craigslist. 4 ads below that ad is an ad from a sf area locksmith. the 2nd sentence in the ad says "did you just buy a house with a safe in it". what a coincidence.(this ad was inserted 4 days prior).

Sounds like a good deal if you had equipment to move it. I would love to have that safe, but I don't do safe work, don't have any way to move it, and live accross the country from him

yes, with those dimensions and the age of the safe, a "safe" estimate (pun intended) is about three tons (6,000 pounds)
:)
