Well, since there is no chance to get the combo from the factory, I took a regular carbide drill and sawsall and cut a big hole in the back of the safe hoping to get some ideas on the lock. There was no way to remove the dress plate on the back of the door because there is right-left divider wall that blocks its removal. So. I decided what I'm gonna do...cut the sides, top, and back off leaving basically the door intact on wheels. (Remember, this is a cheap fire safe). It took less than 5 minutes to get a hole in the back as big as a softball. I would warn others to wear a mask to avoid the asbestos in the lungs. I'll post pic when I get it done. I can only work on this on the weekends while at the ranch. There's always a boatload of higher priorities! With much of the weight removed I can move it in the house with air conditioning and "after hours" time.
I have another project too. It's an old Syracuse Safe Company safe weighing 800 or so pounds. It is open! I'm afraid to mess with it with my little knowledge of combos. It has a Yale lock. It's embedded in about 4 inches of asbestos (estimated) and I can't see around it very well. I can see the cam, but no wheel packs. I'm not sure if the cam is on the face side of the wheel packs and they are missing, or it the cam is on the back and I just can't see in there very well. I'll post this pic. If I'm breaking rules of post a new subject in an "old" post let me know.
