Hey guys,

I've been working on this particular lock for a while now and boy was is a PITA... But I finally got it open today. It's a Best core with a WA keyway inside of an SFIC Housing. When I purchased this lock from LSA he told me that it was a keyway specific to a certain chain company that had Best design and assign them their own one-off. Anyway, the keyway is not only unique, but it also makes picking extremely difficult. The angle of the warding forces you to get kinda creative with your pick (like a keymark). So here it is.. Enjoy

Next, I'll try and go for the control line.. However, picking this lock to operating is enough to hold me over for a little while.

Happy Picking,
Whizdumb

Looks like the WA keyway to me. I thought you said it was specifically designed for a certain chain store down south. Either way, what a pain in the butt to pick with the slanted warding near the pin chambers. Thanks for the support guys.

No problem bro.. for all intensive purposes it's a WA keyway then.

Did you try picking with a short hook at all or did you stick with the reach, just grabbed a gov steel one myself, was wondering if it was a necessity due to the key-way or was it preferential?

The WA keyway is quite restrictive. I actually bent my slender reach doing this (don't worry it bent back straight very nicely). I would think that you next option would be a slender gem or maybe even a slender hook. Either way, slender is the way to go with this keyway. Other keyways may be more receptive to different picks. Give it a crack with a slender gem whereas the regular gov't steel is going to be too thick in my opinion. Good Luck

Happy Picking,

I find using a slender short hook on WA is the best option... the gem just likes to slip right off the keypins

I had a couple of pretty tight keyways in some BEST locks awhile back, for one of them I picked it very easily counter clockwise, and then plug spun it to the clockwise direction to open it!! Some of there keyways you got to get creative in order to open them, and tension them even.
