WOW! And you didn't take him up on the offer? Apprenticeships in locks-shops ( in the US anyway ) are few and far between. Most are reserved for family members or friends. The owner clearly sees you have potential.
You may wish to stand back and look at this from a different perspective.
Your initial contact included asking for junk locks , You can be sure saving junk locks you for isn’t / wasn't real high on his priority list, partially because there is little or no money/ benefit involved .
This man has a small business that requires a lot work in different areas of expertise ( accounting, inventory, marketing, janitorial etc) in addition to day to day locksmith business.
Taking on an apprentice is a huge liability, it will be a while, before an apprentice will be up to speed and able to be a asset to the shop. Meanwhile the apprentice gets a paycheck and will make mistakes that require the assistance of a more experienced person to fix. ( this all costs money/time)
He has offered you ( from his prospective) a pretty sweet deal: you get locks to play with and hands on knowledge about the trade. He gets an employee who hopefully can be an asset to his company in the future.
If the idea of an apprenticeship doesn't appeal to you for what ever reason, you should be courteous enough to thank him for considering you.
I did of course thank him for the offer, but I am a business owner and have no interest or time to take on something like that. I would have jumped on it if I was just out of school, but for me this is really a hobby I enjoy the puzzle box aspect of picking and crafting the tools thats about where it stops, other than intellectual level stuff.

Okay now this is one of my favorite locks I have got from the shop. While cleaning up today I noticed a really old Sargent box and when I picked it up it felt like there was a padlock inside (I knew I had hit gold) so I opened it up and here was this really nice, and old Sargent padlock, new in box and had never even been put together! I asked my boss for this lock and when he said yes I got right on making a key, and then started putting the lock together, and that is when the problems started...... If anyone knows how to put these locks together please tell me because I have no clue. When I put the rivet in the lock to keep the plug inside it made it so the plug wouldn't move at all. Any help?
Oh and by the way in the last picture the rivet has been pulled out from where it was (all the way inside the lock).

Try putting the other end of the rivet in? You are not supposed to hammer it in as hard as you can, just enough to hold the plug in, then the rivets and pin caps are ground flush with the lock.
And all I have is a diagram for an older 2 rod model instead of a single one. Let me know if you want it.

Ok trying to put this shit together in not even worth my time. Now that I put the rivet in it locked up the plug so I took it out trying to take the plug out but now the plug is stuck so I turn it sideways and it pops out a bit and then I here a click so I look around for what it could be and the metal piece that holds the shackle in place is now shot out but I already put the cap on the hole for the shackle........ These locks are nice looking but are way to easy to fuck up! This shit lock is going to be put to the side and probably not worked on for a few weeks until I feel like totally pissing myself off again.

Ok after a lot of anger (and I mean A LOT) the lock is working fine! I had to make my own parts because the ones that came with the lock just didn't work but I am happy now.

I think I have one of these at home NIB with directions sheet. Let me check on Sunday and if I have it, I'll scan it and post it.
Mine came with pins and blanks also.

That would be cool man! The lock can't be opened when it is upside down, which tells me one of the springs was too small when I put it in there, but that is okay because it is not like I will ever be locking anything up with it.

Got this lock today from one of the guys at the shop! He has the working key for this lock in his car but can't find it at the moment (the key that is) but I hope he ends up coming across it. He said he got it off a job he went on, and because he doesn't collect locks it was just taking up space for him.
