Israeli Magnum "High(low)-Security"!

So today I got this new lock I've been expecting...

The Magnum Israeli!
It's supposed to be a high security wafer lock. But is made in China!

I think we all agree that it's a beautifull lock:

Here's the key from both sides and it's profile:

I still haven't figured out if it has 7 (4 on the bottom, 3 on top) or 8 (4/4) wafers. The key only has 3 cuts on top, but it's possible that there is a 0 (zero) cut, thus, another wafer.

So what's this lock all about?
First of all, as usuall, sloppy tolerances. Very easy to pick. SPP or raking, doesn't matter. The only think I have to vouch for is the tight keyway. It's difficult to move your pick around, and even more difficult to know in which wafer you are in with this keyway. I give them credit for that.
But still easy nonetheless.

After that comes the physical security. Well... See for yourself:
Image
The part where the arrow is pointing is kinda loose. Doesn't come out of course, but wiggles a bit. And the metal on that part looks fragile. I believe it breaks if I throw it to the floor.
I also noticed that if I grab both sides of the cylinder and pull them appart, it has a slight give, just under 0,5mm, which supports my theory of it's fragility.

Image
Whether it's for weight or money savings, the truth is that the cylinder is hollow where the arrow is pointing. It has a small square of foam to cover the hole, but when I removed it it had a deep hole. Doesn't look very tough too.

No sure if you also noticed (can't see very well in the pics), the quality of the threading for the screw is crap too. It still has the mould marks. The screw fits nicelly though (at least that!)

I still haven't figured out how to disassemble this cylinder without destroying it. The C-Clips aren't C-clips, are just metal rings that can't be removed. The plug wouldn't come out from the front anyway (would be a good security feature, had the lock not be so fragile). It looks to be secured by those 2 ball bearings that hold the whole cylinder together. I would guess they are glued, but don't have enough information to support that theory.
It shouldn0t be that interesting to gut this lock anyway. a couple wafers, nothing more.

It was worth to buy this lock, as I really like uncommon styles, but it's just that, interesting.

Would I consider using this lock anywhere (got it from ebay for abou 12 or 13 bucks)? NO WAY. I can find a cheaper lock that is much better than that.

Here's a short clip of raking it:

As you see, my difficulty is to move the pick around a bit (and the angle of picking so the camera would catch it didn't help). On a perfect position I have picked it in under 10 secs but I gues it was luck. Average time in raking is about 25secs. On SPP'ing (in a good position) just over 45secs usually.

Hope you enjoy the lock and if anyone has one of these, see if the key has 7 or 8 cuts please

Based upon this key with a different cut, I would say the lock has 4 + 4 disks.
(Here is a video on the lock being picked. Different name but I am sure it is the same lock.)

These can be overlifted with a blank key by removing the key slowly with light tension/

I think it was Raf that covered these a while ago on his blog.

Thanks escher7 and Rick.
I have seen that video. Exactly the real name of the lock is Magnum Mont Blank 2100. I called it Israeli Magnum becaus it was the name on ebay :???:

Rick, do you know how could I get a blank key for it? Appears to be a very restricted blank.

Thanks for the post fgarcia03 ive not seen this lock before...so this as helped greatly !
as rick mentions a lot of wafer locks including auto are vulnerable to the overlifting of the wafers attack also.... unlike discs that require turning
I do have one question does the lock :???: rotate the full 360 degrees when picked.

I haven't tried but my guess is that it does make a full turn without stoping.

I will get back to this when I know more. Here's a link to a nice gutshot of it:

Oldfast, your gutshots are on the link in my last post

Escher7, just tried it. It blocks the plug at 180 degrees. You have to pick it again. Don't know if it's the mechanic of the lock, or an unfortunate bitting, it turned out to be HELL to pick back.

Does anyone has any idea how I can remove the ball bearings that hold the cylinder in place? I changed my mood and now I'd like to gut it

it probably becomes high security when you lock it and break off the easily broken key in the keyway then use the part still in your hand to shove that front of the key as far in as possible.
have ya tried that yet?

Thanks ! so it needs picking twice for full rotation...best to flip it then just before 180 degrees saves time trying to :???: pick it as its harder :akimbo: the second time in this case to return it to the locked position.!

wafer lock....not disc :geek: disc locks have to rotate into position :D

What I don't get about overlifting wafer locsk is that as you pull it out only the wafer at the tp of the key is moving. But what if that's not the binding wafer?

In fact, never understood that too

@Rai:
Haven't tried it, but I think I would be able to still open the lock by blowing at it!

I have been tempted by that lock, too. Mostly for the interesting key bow. Thank you for some insight on this lock!
