Posting PDF's on the Forum?

.

I know the server here will host photos (permanently so they'll never be lost).

My question is... will it support PDFs I've created as well?

Here's what I'm driving at. FuckitBucket, as we all know, changed their 3rd party sharing policy -
leaving this forum riddled with blank spots. I've since been using imgur, but fear I'll eventually
suffer the same fate. Actually, I believe their policy already boldly states NO 3rd party sharing.

Ideally what I'd like to do is post my articles as usual (using imgur to include all the photos).
BUT, at the end of each article, include a link that would open basically a PDF duplicate.

Is this even feasible? And please, tryn' keep the talk at a 'computer-illiterate-level' for me. lol

Re: Posting PDF's on the Forum?

Hmm, I am not sure about PDFs. That would be something for Elbow or xeo to look into. It could be as simple as checking a box to allow it, or it could involve a rewrite of the entire site.

The PDF would be a copy of the complete article including text and photos?

Right, that's kinda what I was thinking. Both photos & wording.
At the very least, I guess I could just throw all the pics in a pdf
in case imgur someday takes them all down. At best, I'd put the
wording with it as well...

I'll likely be making these pdf's for my own reference library anyway.
I was just curious if the forum would support such a thing though.
I dunno... the photobucket thing was quite a devastating blow.
It's just got me thinking a little more long-term now.

Re: Posting PDF's on the Forum?

Having something nice printable would be shiny. Also a complete collection of your openings would be splendid! But if you consider making PDFs just with the photo, why not just upload the photos here?

Hm... reminds me, that may I should make a backup of my postings here about my own openings.

And you're right... hosting photos HERE on the site is no doubt the most logical approach.
I'm a little embarrassed to say it, but I'm just way to finicky about certain things sometimes.
That's just my personal baggage I haul around to make life more interesting... and painful. lol

You should really consider doing something, yes! The photobucket deal was a hard hit.
I mean, I've poured alot of my life into some of this shit (we all have). I don't blame them;
it was my own stupidity and laziness to think something like that would stay free forever.

Anyway, some of this computer stuff can be really frustrating for me. But it's high time I do it.
I just started some writing that will likely take me the better part of a year or more to complete.
You can bet that shit's gonna be hosted by MY computer! lol. Not leaving it to chance any more.

Re: Posting PDF's on the Forum?

I never used photobucked or similar sites. I prefer to put it on the same site as the accompanying text is. If that is not possible I put it on my personal web space and put a link. This is most often the case if I want to share something other than a photo. The problem with the uploaded photos is that not only photobucked, but also this forum can vanish and I would like to keep my safe opening stuff, perhaps with some added notes.

You write a book about safe opening? (Where is the greedy looking smiley?) And btw. is there hope that you will post again about your safe openings?

A book?! Goodness no, lol. I have so much yet to learn it's ridiculous. But I'm lovin' every little step.

But I'll certainly be sharing more in the chronicles this season. Actually the holidays have brought
the calls down to a trickle - giving me some time to organize some of my photos and thoughts.

Re: Posting PDF's on the Forum?

We allow people to post PDFs as long as they adhere to the forum rules and don't violate copyrights.

Since you're creating the content yourself as the poster, I don't see any problem with posting a PDF which is something you created yourself.

You basically don't need to ask us permission to post content that you created yourself as long as it isn't illegal and doesn't violate the forum rules. The content you're posting must add to the board in some positive manor, be useful information, be related to the forum topic(s), etc.

XeOOOOOooo!

Alright. Thanks man. I'll go ahead and get started then :)
I'm such an idiot with technology, lol, we'll see if I can do it.

p.s. Unrelated note (sorry)... but as long as I've gotcha on the line:

It seems the font size options are not entirely working all of a sudden.
Large & Huge work just fine. But Small & Tiny don't seem to take affect.

If you get a chance, could you take a look?
Maybe it's something on MY end or my comp.
