Made a quick video as I was trying to figure out where I want to make cuts for a cutaway. Just wanted to find what components were where, but seems like a decent place for a vid.

Never seen such a lock. How is the combination cleared?

Turn the dial anti-clockwise for two or three turns, stopping on 0.

This particular lock has a two digit code on the shackle, and has a key override (master key). This model was most often used at schools. The two digit blind code could only be looked up in charts given to the school.

The code on this lock is 6 9. If it had been a three or four digit number, there would have been no space between the numbers.

After making the cutaway window in the side of the lock, I worked out the combination as L0-L9-R8-L2-R8.

The L0 (left zero/zed) is to clear the combination and prepare the lock to be opened. For those who are unsure, left means to turn the dial anti-clockwise (or counter-clockwise) and right means to turn the dial clockwise. When entering the combination, ignore the numbers on the face of the lock. You will feel a series of definite clicks when you turn the dial. Yes, this lock can be opened entirely by feel, which is one reason they were popular padlocks for schools for the blind.

Back to opening the lock. L0 to clear the combo. L9 - Now continue turning the dial left past 0 until you feel the ninth click. R8 - turn clockwise until you feel the eighth click. L2 - Turn anti-clockwise until the second click. R8 - turn the dial clockwise until you feel the eighth click.

The last bit of turning before you reach the eighth click (or whatever your final number is) will feel stiffer. That is the pawl pulling back from the shackle. If you turn past the last number, you will need to clear and start over. The same if you turn the wrong way or go backwards while dialing any number.

The shackle will not pop open. You will need to pull it open once the combo is entered.

When you close the shackle, the pawl that follows the labyrinth is flung down towards the center of the labyrinth. That effectively makes it so you can’t just pull the shackle open again.

So I just got a Gougler keyless lock with no combination. Really nice looking piece and would be awesome to get it working. It has 1248 stamped on the shackle. Is there anyway to get the combination?

Try R 2-9-8.

So turn the dial left for four full rotations to the left (anti/counter clockwise) and stop at 0. Turn the dial two clicks right, nine clicks left then eight clicks to the right. Lift the shackle.

If it works, let us know! If not, still let us know.
