That would be a bottle caddy for lack of a better term. It locks up your liquor so kids/servants can't get into it.

That is cool, last week I installed a few cam locks in a guy's house so he could hide the liquor. Be much nicer to have the bottle caddy & really torture the kids instead

They usually came with a set of decanters. I think that one is also missing metal railings on the sides that prevented one from just pulling the bottle out to the side.

Something I learned about vinegar...you can get better results when the vinegar is warm. Some reactions are endothermic (heat is needed).

Gordon, great stuff man. I have a level lock (the WW & Co lock) that I aim to make a key for, wasnt sure if its possible to impression just like that but now I know. Thanks.

Jones, Now that I think about it, it did feel a bit harder than brass but the camera doesnt do it justice because it looks totally gold brass color and I sanded the entire key after cutting so I think the nickel could have came off or not?

That key is nickel silver through & through, I haven't ever seen a nickel plated steel key used for the sargent & greenleaf safe deposit lock

Re: Lock Restoration: How do you Restore?

Ok gents so I am bring this topic back up to the top :)

I recently obtained a pancake lock which I may say is just freaking amazing. After I got it open, I toothbrush cleaned the lock and hasp as best as I could then realized there must be plenty of dirty and gunk inside which I should clean as well before putting it down for the collection. Since this is a very old lock I figured Ill get some feedback before using chemicals/lubes. I read somewhere online yesterday that it must only be lubes with graphite which again pointed me to you folks.

Anyone has any thoughts, suggestions what I can use to clean the insides? and what to use for lube?

Re: Lock Restoration: How do you Restore?

Papa, I would use a good solvent or aerosol carb or brake cleaner and blow it out real good with compressed air. Repeat as often as needed until it comes out clean. After it's clean and dry, I'd spray the inside with Houdini Lock spray. Mark

Thanks Mark. I got some acetone which I heard will work great as it drys fast and leaves no residue. Houdini is being ordered today.

I'd leave this one as is
macgng; it's completely unnecessary to have ~15$ in keys for a 50¢ lock ... but we all do it anyway :P

If you a determined to polish this. A can of brasso and an old t-shirt will do it. Or on the cheap ketchup will work.
