odd yale cylinder

I can get better pics if needed - this is a screenshot from a YouTube video I did, but this Yale mortise cylinder came in a lot off ebay. I've never seen a movable tailpiece like this before. The longer piece swings around over to where the pin is protruding.
Anyone have an idea what this would be used for?

Re: odd yale cylinder

Just a guess but it could be for an old hotel or classroom function

That reminds me of some of the Mul-T-Lock cam locks I've installed. The swinging cam allows for a full revolution to either lock or unlock the lock and the key to be removed in either case.

Re: odd yale cylinder

Damn jeff that a curious cylineder!

Seems to me that it has it has a pass through on the tail piece with an anti-rotation pin and the cam is an unusual setup. I've been looking at Yale cylinders to round out my collection and I haven't seen anything like that. Curious to know what keys it takes, looks like the keyway is suited to take several cuts?

Wish I could help you out but that's a new one for me. If you are willing to make a deal .....

Re: odd yale cylinder

Yale makes several cylinders specific to the high voltage industry. Lock out gear, panel locks are examples. This looks like a panel cover cylinder to me. If it is an odd keyway, that would reinforce my guess, as they try to make those difficult to get keys for. Many times they have the switch gear company's name on them. Nice find tho.

Re: odd yale cylinder

This lock is just a normal Y1/paracentric keyway. Working on picking it, not sure how to gut it because of the weird tailpiece.

Re: odd yale cylinder

Re: odd yale cylinder

should be able to remove the 2 screw and take the tail piece off and use a notched pulg follower like the other mortise locks
