Personally i prefer spp'n because i like to get the feel for the lock and i find that if you can master a lock by spp it opens alot more often :)

Re: spp or raking?

A lot of times I don't have the mentality to SPP. So I just rake. It's kind of like hitting a punching bag for me, it just relaxes me by doing random fast movements that sometimes gets results. :P

Re: spp or raking?

SPP for me, I find I get a more consistant result. I try and avoid raking as much as possible!! the only time I would rake a lock would be to get it to false set.

i never rake at all.. not even to get into a false set.. i will spp until that happens or just straight spp the lock without the false set.
i think the only time i rake is when im helping someone out or something like that. only when in a hurry.

Re: spp or raking?

I will spp when I am first opening a lock, just to see what it feels like, I usually only rake a lock out of frustration, right before I cut it open!!!!
I have been in the souls of many women, but I always end up on the soles of there shoes.

I will always try and straight spp the lock, or spp it to a false set, but on occasions to get a vid up on youtube I have given the lock a little rake just to save video time, but other than that raking is a no no for me.....you just dont get an understanding or feel for the lock by raking, spp is a much more effective way of picking, it takes so much more talent and skill.

Re: spp or raking?

i'm an spp man myself don't waste my time with raking.
A zealous locksmith died of late,

And did arrive at heaven gate,

He stood without and would not knock,

Because he meant to pick the lock.

Re: spp or raking?

Rake first.....SPP later.

Sometimes, life is too short for SPP'ing.

Oh sure, SPP'ing is the ultimate skill set...but at times, patience wears a little thin.

When that happens, I'll open the lock by whatever means available....if I had some C4 or Semtex, there would be a hell of a lot of blown up Brinks shrouded padlocks in my back yard.....

Yeah I know, I'm an impatient bastard. Can't hep it!
