What is reverse picking ?

I am reading a book atm and it mentions reverse picking for security pins. Quote: "You can pick them by reverse picking-carefully lowering the bottom pins acorss the shear line."
So I would assume the you over set both upper and lower pins and then release some tension as you slowly lower the key pin with your pick? So would you over set all pins at once or just one at a time ? Does this sound right and is it a common practise ?

Re: What is reverse picking ?

reverse picking, overlifting or "over picking" is a process of overlifting all the pinstacks.so all the keypins are bound above the shearline, held by rotational tension.
feathering and gently bouncing tension allowing the keypins to drop below the shearline,
allowing the plug to turn.
generally the keypins will drop in the opposite order
to which they would bind under regular picking.
this method is relatively obscure in picking circles, and i have only found use for it the odd time.

I used this method when picking an American 1100 series lock recently. You need to have complete control and understanding on the use of correct tension when reverse picking, otherwise you could be over-picking and loosing false sets until the end of time.

Re: What is reverse picking ?

I use reverse picking quite often, it's great for a skilled attack when you are in a hurry or the lock is being stubborn. Principle is to reverse the picking by lifting pins and reducing tension until shear line is met. Happy picking.

Re: What is reverse picking ?

I had a laminated ABUS that I could do this with. I have never been able to do it on any other lock. I wish it would work on BEST. That would be awesome.
