First picks (7 locks)

Hi I'm Les (introduced myself in the new member section) we have a swap meet here in Huntington Beach every weekend so I thought I would check out the lock selections, I'm sure these are mostly junk but, some looked cool and some looked easy. The brinks and the Chinese master lock looking ones I wasable to open with junk home made tools, I need a picking set still if anyone can advise me on one... But anyways here they are and I have no idea how to open the 3 old ones and the Bravo one.

Re: First picks (7 locks)

Hi Les.

That Bravo padlock's interesting, in that the lock looks like a classic Abloy - pretty similar anyway. Even the bow on the key looks the same, though the key isn't semicircular in cross section. I went to the web address on the side of it - nothing to do with locks. I wonder what the story behind that one is? Chinese clone, probably. There are tools to pick the original Abloy version of that lock, but I wouldn't bother if I were you. Leave that one 'til later.

Good photos. What camera did you use?

Re: First picks (7 locks)

I am literally using a sculpting tool to pick with and a bra under wire for tension, I need a good set to start with. the only ones I was able to pick were the standard ones, the old ones and the bravo one are too weird for me right now. Im going to go back today and find some more regular locks to play with. Can't afford a starter picking set so ill just fumble with what I can make. I just used my iphone for pics. My next posts ill make it so the pictures show up instead of links too that's kind of annoying.

HA! I LOVE IT!! Humble beginnings are awesome :D

As far as picks, I don't have a lot of advice.... but if you don't have/want
to sink much money at the moment, you could take a gander through
SouthOrds' website. They do sell singles. Maybe just buy a couple
few essentials (couple different hooks & a half diamond maybe).
And for tensors.... just keep doin' what you're doin'. Make em.

Re: First picks (7 locks)

So the oldest one doesn't work, the bravo is like alien tech to me, and the other two old ones, the keyway you see(at least the front plate) is fake and just spins freely.
