Might be possible to put a group order together to make it cost effective to import if it can't be sourced in Canada.

When I looked at ordering it several years ago the issue meeting minimum orders of over $100 to get good pricing.

i would be up for a group order if enough people are into that.
but obviously a place offering a good price on smaller orders would be ideal for reordering down the line

I'm sure MSC would ship to Canada. http://metalworking.mscdirect.com/CGI/MWSRCH?ns=1&scrNtt=shim+stock&x=0&y=0&Ntk=Keyword+Search. They're an excellent company, one I have done business with many times.

Checkout Starrett 667-20 at http://traverscanadacatalogs.com/lg_display.cfm/catalog/master_2011/page/682

Its one of the lower prices ....

You can also find it at Starrett.com ..... They have a shipping warehouse near Toronto

Some pickmakers buy it in 25 ft rolls as it may be less expensive.

looks like msc will ship to canada they seem to have much more in stock
i am looking at this https://metalworking.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRITW?PMPXNO=1647469 and wondering how i would cut 1/2 - 1" strips out of it. it seems like a good price for 6" x 50"

You could improvise something like a miniature table saw to slice pieces off with a dremel and cutoff wheel. (The "table saw" would provide a fence to guide the steel through straight and prevent binding the cutting wheel). A large shear could make short work of it if you can appeal to a local metal shop for 10 minutes of their time.
