Should I Replace C Clips with Cerclips?

So, I've either broken or completely bent those very annoying C Clips which are located at the back of most plugs that keep the plug from sliding out. I was thinking of buying these Cerclips to replace them, and a wrench to tighten them.

Any thoughts?

They will fit some locks, and not fit others. It would be a case-by-case decision.

They will fit most mortise Cylinders and I could buy an assortment pack off amazon for about $10

Most mortise cylinders i have seen do not use clips. But for those it works on, go for it. :)

Those are snap rings, you need a set of pliers to install and remove them.

:agree:

Although I've never had much of a problem with the clips yep you should get a proper set of snap ring pliers to remove C and E clips such as one of these sets - http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_ ... ooks%2C198 but they are available at any hardware or automotive store.

Oh okay yeah, I know I needed a set of these but I wasn't sure what they were called. Thanks

I can't recall what brand or kind of cylinder I worked on a while back, but I replaced a E clip with a C clip and the C clip was just loose enough that it spun around on the end of the plug. The real problem was that the C clip now was blocking the end of the plug stopping the key from going in all the way. It took me a while to grasp what was happening. I finally had to file the end of the key off bit by bit until it was seated all the way and allowed me to turn the lock open. I quickly replaced the C clip with the right E clip and made a new key, problem solved. Mark
