Wards padlock

Anyone know who made locks for Monkey Wards? I'm guessing Yale but don't know.

Re: Wards padlock

Looks like an Ilco but they usually have angles instead of a smooth radius on the corners like that one has.

Re: Wards padlock

Just a word of caution. When picking this lock, watch out for the WARDS.

Re: Wards padlock

Looks like Corbin 99 keyway. It even has the very old Corbin round bow, which preceded the now-defunct cloverleaf (X-class) bow.

Re: Wards padlock

Believe so. It takes a CO5 blank.

Re: Wards padlock

didn't Fraim also make padlock bodies like this? I also thought of Ilco Unican as someone else mentioned. instead of Corbin though, it may be their CCL line of products.

Here is the Fraim I had in mind, now that I have found a photo, the lock in question is obviously not a Fraim.

or a Unican padlock

Re: Wards padlock

Maybe does belong to their CCL line. Also, the Ilco 1000 ( CO1) blank fits.

Re: Wards padlock

Craftsman and Slaymaker also provided padlocks for Montgomery Wards, but I am not sure if Craftsman actually made them or had them made.

here is an example: the EL1 key suggests the padlock is an Elgin perhaps?

update: looks like an Elgin to me:

hope this helps and it's fun to see examples from American lock makers of the 1900's who are no longer around,
