Re: Happy 2020! A lock a day keeps the doctor away

Thank you just1pick+open, I'm flattered. This journey required more energy and dedication that I anticipated. It's not difficult to pick a lock almost every day. But doing it every day is. For example I'm not at home and before leaving I had to select ten small and light locks and one pick to take with me.
Other days I have to find five minutes to quickly pick a lock even if I'm tied.
Other days I happily spend hours playing and then I choose one of the many locks for that day.
So I doubt the challenge will continue. Even if it taught me so much, and I'm very happy I decided to do it.
Let's see if I manage to pick till the end of the year...

You'll make it to the end. The best part for me is the skill you have with that :halfdiamond:

PhoneMan: would have freaked my friend out if hed come over
MBI: Most anything goes.
PhoneMan: way to give me nightmares
selim: ok then blow your load,, i'll take anything free now a day's

Day 346 of 366. This old phone lock is amazing. Simple and effective in blocking the disk of the old rotary phones.
But our Gordon knew a trick to call anyway

Re: Happy 2020! A lock a day keeps the doctor away

As always, cool locks and good stories with them Femurat. That phone lock reminded me of the old phone of my parents and next, it reminded me of locks I forgot I played with as a kid.

I had a lever lock, maybe I still have it, that I tried to open with a coat hanger or something when I was 10 perhaps. I didn't succeed although I enjoyed the fiddling. I did pick my diary and I think I picked a piggy bank.

It took years to finally buy a lock pick set mid 2019. I always kept the security interest and even took it as specialty in my studies, but shame on me for waiting so long to rediscover lock picking, which I already liked as a kid!

Thank you, edocdab. I remember when I was a kid, I had a small padlock I used to open by jiggling a small pocket knife. It was satisfying but never understood what was going on.

Day 348 of 366. This NEMEF is good for training. A standard lock with a paracentric keyway and good tolerances.

Day 349 of 366. Looong key, short pick! The pick is not in the picture but it's the only one I got here. It barely reaches the sixth pin in standard locks. The guess on how I was able to pick this lock is all yours.

Cheers :)

Keyway is wide open. Did you use the tensioner? Might be possible depending on the binding order. Otherwise maybe picked the rest from the back of the lock.

Nemef is a brand from NL and we have tons of those second hand. I have quite a few by now and they are fun to play with.

I like the way you think. Both options could have been possible.

If you carefully observe the key, is symmetrical. The first 5 cuts open the lock from the outside. The last 5 cuts open it from the inside. It's a lock applied on a wooden door, so it's quite long itself. But it only has 5 pin chambers. So it's fully pinned.

If I was the lock designer, I would have kept the pins on the interior part of the door.

Day 350 of 366. I don't see this format often. Resembles a kik but it probably is for a padlock.
