new lock for me

I bought an equiptment box at an auction and it was locked with a single brass keyway exposed and no key.
I got it open and the lock out. It is a brass, no-name, padlock with only one hole for a shackle. A mating post is welded inside the box.
The keyway is a SC1 and it has 5 pins. The lock body is stamped on top with DX 7. There are keys for sale on the net but I would like to make my own.
Does anyone have the cuts for a DX 7 or the D&S data for such a key? I can always order a key and then make a 2nd key myself but if someone can share some info on this lock, I would be grateful. I think the box might be good for locking up some smaller items so they won't grow legs :)
Thanks for the help.....

Re: new lock for me

Is there a set screw at base of hole for shackle?

As it is a SC1 schlage keyway it is likely a removable cylinder...

If you can remove the cylinder then you can CAREFULLY dump the pins and measure to make a key,

Or get a rekey kit from Home Depot, etc and rekey...

Joe...
Can not remove core. Not that lucky. The body is solid brass with no markings except DX7 on the top. A search for the key shows several for sale and the number must id the bitting.

Wow, if those keys work I would suggest getting a WB replacment lock as they make them with the single shackle hole.

Re: new lock for me

Yes, both replies are correct. That is the key on the web.
I will check other key numbers to see if the photos are the same or not. They could be using just one photo to sell all their keys.

I will try the cut 10RINGO10 suggested. I may cut shallow and then check for marks and file as needed.

I have to leave town for a couple of weeks so I may not get to work on it until I return. I'll post results......

Thanks for all the help

Re: new lock for me

Its kind of suck it and see with this one - as the key was same for all dx codes 7-20 shown
but the interesting thing was the guy on ebay key looked similar - the bitting you could see as it was partly obscured for a reason ....go for it buddy let us know the bitting - so I have it on record may help others years from now

good post - thanks

Just pick the lock keep it turned feel the pattern of the pins with your pick to see if it is even close to the cuts on the pictured DX7 key. With it picked you can look in the keyway to see if the first pin looks like the right length and is a little deeper cut than the second pin and also see if the 3rd pin is deeper than the first pin as seen in the pictured key. Easy enough to determine if that is the right key.
