Re: L0ckcr4ck3r's Cutaways

thanks Deadlock and good point flywheel, i never know if the machining marks look better or not. I'll use some 1200 grit on that surface next time and see if it make the logo and serial number pop a little more! Mind you, you can only really see it if the you take the lock apart.

Re: L0ckcr4ck3r's Cutaways

Beautiful work, as always! I might just need to save up for another.

One question though, and I hate to ask... but is it a 5570 or 6570?

Re: L0ckcr4ck3r's Cutaways

How do I get one?
macgng; it's completely unnecessary to have ~15$ in keys for a 50¢ lock ... but we all do it anyway :P

Glad they turned up ok and you like them Jimmy!

The "5570 Series" thing does get confusing but i emailed American Lock to ask about it. The first 2 digits define the model and core... 55 is a 5 pin core in a 2" body and a 65 is a 6 pin core in the same sized body. the last 2 digits denote the length of the shackle. So the Body is exactly the same for all the locks in the 2" Brass series... so they make 1 body, stamp is "5570 series" and use that part to assemble all the other locks. Guess it saves money... but the cutaways are all made from 6570NR (Non Removable Key)

If anyone is wondering about the relative positioning of the series number on the AL50... well i'm kinda at the mercy of how centered the guy at factory stamps the lock in the first place... i can't more the cuts too far off.. but i try and do move it up to +/- 0.020" to make it as good as i can.

Thanks for all the positive comments and feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions. Theres an Abus 90RK/50 TI and WB on the way in the next few weeks!

Re: L0ckcr4ck3r's Cutaways

I like how you preserve the important markings on the lock bodies, even if it means not quite showing as much of the internals.
It always bugged me how even the factory would often mill their own name and/or model off the lock on factory cutaways. Hell, those are sales samples, I'd have thought they'd want to keep that. Even if it meant making custom markings on their cutaways.
