Part 1 of a 3 part series. Great info for learning how to lather, not just with the Stirling soaps he used. Might want to watch them all.

Last time I remember shaving was when I needed to due to govt agency work regulations. IIRC that was around 16 or 17 years ago. I've trimmed it close a few times since then, when I've needed to change appearance, but it's been rather a long time since I actually shaved.

I can see why some people really enjoy this. And it's interesting to see the different setups.

I myself haven't shaved since I was 16 or 18 maybe? For me, shaving falls under the same
theory I have for pairing my socks... I just don't do it, lol. The sock revelation came to me
while mowing (most good ideas do). And it has since changed my life forever. LOL

Decided I'd get a new razor :D

This is a 40s Gillette fat handle Tech.

Came with an unopened pack of blades, I imagine that came with it. I do not think i'll be opening those. The case shows obvious age, but still pretty slick condition for being 70 years old.(if it's original to the razor that is)

Still the razor is in excellent condition.

Very nice razor. You can find packs of those blades for relatively cheap if you ever want to try the brand. They are made from carbon steel so they will rust, unlike modern stainless blades.

My first shave with the Tech was tonight using a Dorco blade. Going from the Weishi to the Tech was pretty phenomenal.

Much more "aggressive" than the Weishi, which made shaving so much easier. It would take a ton of effort to achieve a consistent shave with the Weishi, but with the Tech, the blade just glided across my face with minimal effort.(at least in contrast to the Weishi)

Now I must say, I would like a bit more weight in the handle or a bit more aggression in the razor. This shave was much bether than I've had in awhile but I could definitely see where having a more aggressive razor would make a shave that much better.

Nice stuff Max. Have you tried the Astra SP, Gillette Silver blue or the Gillette 7 o'clock Super Stainless blades? They are sharper and would likely give you that bit more aggressiveness that you are looking for.

First shave of 2016!

First Canadian Shave Soap Co. Esther's Peppermint & Grapefruit prototype version
Gillette Canadian "New" short comb circa 1930s
Gillette 7 O'Clock green Super Stainless blade
RazoRock Plissoft barber handle brush
Lucky Tiger Aftershave

This was my first use of both the razor and the Lucky Tiger. Damn, it is a nice razor. First pass was usually where I am at with the 2nd and 2nd pass was a DFS. I only did a bit of cleanup on my sideburns (always need to do ATG with them) and behind my jaw and had a near BBS shave with no irritation.

I usually use a balm after the witch hazel/alum because of the dry climate here but decided to go without to test the Lucky Tiger. Feel is good but slightly dry so at least during winter I will need to continue with the balm.
