Burglarized by bump?

This is a picture of a lock on my in-law's house. We were recently talking about how they had an attempted breaking and entering several years back and I decided to look more closely at their locks. They told me that the alarm went off and then the intruders fled. That's about the extent of what happened.

Anyway, I was wondering if this looks to anybody else like this lock has been bumped. Let me know!

That's pretty much what I wanted to know. It may or may not have been bumped but it is definately over used and old. I am in the process of convincing them to update their locks. :)

Do they know about bumping ? Perhaps a demonstration would be in order, just so they had real knowledge about how insecure their locks are. Plus you could show them on the web how easy it is for people to buy bumpkeys.

Not that you want to scare them, but since there was a break in attempt there, upgrading the locks seems prudent.

Good job they have an alarm..

I've been doing alot of lock forensics lately and i found this website of great use. I've posted a link to the specific page on Bumping, i think it will be very usefull in determining whether or not the lock was "bumped".

Nice website. I was imagining Abby from NCIS explaining it to me.
