To answer a couple of questions in one.

The picks are made from carbon steel hacksaw blades which came covered in a blue paint, I preety much make the whole pick on a busted up old 2 wheeled bech grinder, this thing is probably about 30 years old and falling to bits lol.
I get the pick end as best I can on the grinder then finish it off with a couple of rusty old files, as you can see so far I'm not working with the best tools lol.
I then sand off all the remaining blue paint from the blade.
Okay with the handle, the little grey circle thingys you see are my 5 year olds craft beads lol, I split the bead down the middle with a stanley knife and then stick them to the blade using some epoxy glue.
Then its time to put the Epoxy Putty on for the handle. I'm sure you know how thats done lol just mix it up mould it onto the handle and around the beads.
Once hardend it looks preety rough.
Then I use different grades of sand paper to work the handles down to what you see in the pictures, this probably takes the longest time I suppose.

Thats about it really, I'm preety pleased with the way they turn out considering the shity tools I have at my disposal lol.

TAHNKS AGAIN GUYS!!!

Looks like there's hope for me yet. Extremely nice picks and workman ship.

I thought epoxy putty dried to a white look. Suppose it depends on the stuff you buy huh.

Nice job brv, gotta get me some of these made.

Re: Latest Picks!

Thanks mate! Yeah it all depends on what putty you buy, I used the steel Epoxy Putty, you can also get a regular one (which sets whitish colour) and a wood one which sets like a shity off white colour!!

Re: Latest Picks!

Damn and blast. I've seen the stuff in the pound shop, when I was looking for hacksaw blades!
Think they are 6 or 8 stuck to a bit of card - small thimble size and dry in about 5 mins.
I wasn't sure whether to get them or not.

Pound £press sell 12 hacksawblades for, would you belive, a pound!
Thats 24 picks or if you brake them into 3, erm, considerably more than that (LOL)

Looked on ebay after your last reply and not sure but if buying a medium size pot may work out cheaper, as you don't get much for a pound really.

Re: Latest Picks!

Mate, dont get the little thible ones stuck to the card! you should be able to get it in a plastic tube (see my pictures) I'll get ya some if yu want and send it to ya!!
I have tried the hacksaw blades from the pound shop and they are shit mate!! you would be better off getting a pack of carbon steel ones off ebay! I bought some off there for about £3 I think there were 12 blades.

Re: Latest Picks!

Yeah, looking at your pictures the first time round I didn't really pay attention to the tube-o-putty.
Too busy drooling over ya picks – hope ya don’t mind.

Again, have to say they look stunning! How on earth you get the shapes, widths, peeks, etc. all the same size it beyond me.
You should be good at painting too with an eye like that - yeah?

So these hacksaw blades aren’t carbon? They bend quite well and look like all the rest but what do I know, huh?

I watched that vid on YouTube about making picks and he said said get the cheap kidda blades, from a pound shop and they bend like this.
So while in the shop, one "accidentally" fell outta the pack and it bent like that! So here we are today (Mod Power)

Re: Latest Picks!

Well they look okay to me mate, got a nice bend on it!! The cheap ones I bought from the £ shop where painted black and if you bent them like that they would just stay that way, no spring in them at all!!
Nice one buddy!!!
