High Carbon Steel Sheets, where to buy?

Anyone know a good company where I can buy small sheets of good carbon steel to make some picks from. I need to be able to buy from the site online without having to talk to someone over the phone. I need it to be good strong steel around .025" thickness, or around that size... I wanna try and make a few of my own designs.

try searching for spring steel, main spring blanks. you should be able to find blanks in the dimensions you are looking at any gun parts supplier.

around 3-4$ for about 12in. length. usually sold to repair antique locks.

i would imagine that string steel would be just as good as anything else you can find

Re: High Carbon Steel Sheets, where to buy?

Feeler guages are cheap and readily available from auto parts stores, but they are stainless steel. Plumbers drain snake and Electricians fish tape are pretty cheap and available at most hardware stores.

If you are anywhere near a medium sized city, check out the metal suppliers. They often have a selection of high carbon steel in thin sheets, one place near me has tool steel and stress proof in many different sizes.

If you really want to get exotic, check out MSC Tools. http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNPDFF?PM ... T4TP=*LTIP

The on line catalog starts at page 1720 for thin metal sheets and shim stock. There must be 50 pages of different thin sheets and rolls of metal. They are expensive and more suited to an industrial user, rather than someone that wants to make a few picks, but it's nice to just look through the catalog and see what's out there..

http://www.Mcmaster.com

search for "feeler gauge", its on the 2nd page of search results.

They have high carbon steel, also a couple stainless alloys. It comes in 12" pieces.
