Composite

Soooo...
After looking at Tooly's recent picks/handles, I felt inspired to try something myself.
I threw together a short hook with a rough handle design, then took some heavy chefs pants material, soaked it in 2-part clear epoxy and wrapped the handle area really tightly.
The blade still needs polishing...there are scratches still on it but like I said, it was merely a test to see how the handles would turn out.
I'm almost done with this handle..i will polyeurethane the handle once i get it where I like it.
It was pretty cool how well it turned out without really trying. Today I'll use some better looking material and actually plan out the shape instead of slopping it all together like I did here.

Those have a real neat look to them, you did a good job! If a person uses there imagination, I think there is endless ways to make handles.

Now that you mention it, it *is* kinda snakeskin-sh.

I really don't care for the shape of the handle at all but as far as proof of concept goes, it passes :)

Re: Composite

I reckon if you were to put some form of varnish of some sorts and gave it a bit of a glaze, it would look fab.

Ok, here is the second one I made, a bit more simply and carefully.I didn't use stainless steel this time. I used plumbing drain snake for this guy, polished it, etc.
The laminate/composite handle wrap is pretty much the same as the one above but both have now been polyurethaned which really brightens up the detail in the wrap.
I'm not happy with the seam where the blade meets the handle on either of these. It needs a cap or trim or some sorta pretty cover thing over that transition.
Oh yeah, the last pic is the above pick with polyurethane.

I don't know if anyone is interested but I'd be willing to make these in any pick configuration for next to nothing.

I've been picking with them both for the last couple of hours and I can't tell any appreciable reduction or increase of feedback.
The material is pretty dense after it cures.
