chris wrote:Again, very nice, is it G10? The handles I have made have been straight, I haven't tried using a sanding drum to add divots and such like yours. I may give it a shot. Did you just use a standard manual rivet gun to add those?

Thank you! I actually didn't use rivets, I used 1/4 aluminum rod which I hammered to expand and secure the handles to the pick. Rivets tend to loosen up over time and dont have as clean of a look as i was going for. Once I hammered everything in tightly I used 40 grit and a steady hand to remove the excess aluminum. 40 grit will tear through G10 like butter. Once I had it somewhat flush I went from 120 - 600 grit hand sanding on a flat surface. It was the best way in my opinion to get a perfectly flat surface seeing as I don't have a belt sander yet. I used the same 40 grit on my Makita angle grinder and made the curves in the handle. The sanding drums on the Dremel were taking WAY too long.

Re: Bryanxwhite's Home Brew

Thank you very much guys! This is one I'm most proud of. If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me. I have black G10 also. If you have any type of profile that's no problem. Offset half diamond, traditional gem(mine are slightly different), standard hook.

Re: Bryanxwhite's Home Brew

Absolutely love it. Beautiful transition where the pick meets the handle... I really like how those two points protrude on either side! It looks wicked yet elegant. Great texture and color. I love lookin' at pictures like this, thanks so much for posting Bryan.

Re: Bryanxwhite's Home Brew

Thank you!! It's a learning process I'm finding out. I just ordered some 'tiger stripe' G10 thats supposed to have a nice color scheme. Should be interesting. If there's anything you guys would like to see let me know. I'm not exactly the most creative of peoole. I've found a new way to secure the G10 using screws without any threaded inserts. Makes for a lot cleaner look. I hope to have a presentable one later this week.

Re: Bryanxwhite's Home Brew

Here is one that I finished up. Same design as the last. I used black G10 and #8/32 allen screws. The heads are 'lathed' down using a screw chucked into a drill and a bench grinder to decrease the diameter to about a 1/4". They are secured by tapping the G10 with the appropriate threads. You may wonder if the G10 will hold threads this size. I can tell you that I put a lot of torque on these things and nothing stripped out. It's something I just realized recently and will be using this method more often. Trying to use threaded inserts is much more headache than what it's worth. Thanks for looking!
