Tool for picking & decoding double sided wafer locks

I only caught a quick glimpse of one of these and have made a diagram as accurate as possible. Any idea what these are called?

Image

There are 6 picks, 3 for each side, all of which are different shapes & lengths. Each are manipulated individually by their corresponding plungers (for want of a better word). When each plunger is pushed in, the corresponding pick springs outwards.

The tool is inserted into the lock, tension is applied and the plungers and manipulated until the lock is opened. It's basically a high tech jiggler key... but what makes this really cool is that when the lock is picked and the plug is turned a little, the picks can be locked up by tightening the grubscrews.

What this means is, when the plug is returned to its normal position and the tool removed, you have a kind of makeup key. With this, you can create a working duplicate. How cool is that? If anyone has proper diagrams of this tool, or pictures of the tool itself, I'd love to see them. There is probably a seperate tool for taking readings and decoding the lock aswell, but I only saw the actual pick tool. Somebody has to have some more info on these!

Looks like a version of the "Sputnik".

I have videos of the pick in use, but no stills.

I saw it in a video presentation by Arthur Bühl (better known as Arthur Meister). He was demonstrating the sputnik, some kind of comb tool, a whisk-type device for dimple locks and this little beauty. There weren't many clear shots of this tool, so I made a diagram instead of taking a blurry screenshot. :)

Sure thing.

It's in german, but you should get the idea. He starts off with a little about about himself and SSDeV, and also a little about the history of STASI, aswell as some basics on pin tumblers. It doesn't take long to get into the good stuff. He's basically just describing the tools and what they're used for, which you'll see in the demonstrations anyway so you don't need to understand what he's saying perfectly.

That's one happy cucumber... I guess the ladies realised he has better uses than putting in salad.

That has to be one of the most bizarre tools I've ever seen! It's great if u got a double sided 6 wafer lock I suppose! And why does each tip have a different end to it? Then you can lock each pick in place but with those different ends I don't really see the point.

Seeing it in action it looks like it could work but a weird tool indeed!

Actually, any automotive lock with a standard double sided wafer mechanism will have 10-12 wafers (each with a possible 4 depths). Because the tolerances are so sloppy, this tool will open any configuration with ease. I'm not sure why each pick is a different shape, but I'd imagine it's to accomodate for the most common bitting patterns. :)
