Pick case made from a Sharpie marker

About a year ago when i got into the hobby I bought 5 individual basic lockpicks and four tension wrenches and needed a simple case for them. Something that I could easily carry in a pocket.

So I took an old sharpie "professional" marker I had laying around, cut off the plastic and felt tip part, pulled out the ink-fibrous stuff inside the main body ....and bam! Simple little portable case for my five handleless lockpicks & four tension wrenches.

Nice work. Interesting way to carry the picks.

Re: Pick case made from a Sharpie marker

only issue i have is when you shake it someone would know its not a normal sharpie...

and i have an easy remedy... fll the cap with foam... so when you close the cap it holds all the picks and tensors still...

its a really neat case I like the secret agent aspect of it ;)

Re: Pick case made from a Sharpie marker

Very nice, I especially like that the picks don't seem to have to be cut down like the steel sharpie design. I may make one like yours to see how I like it.
To ileviate the rattle that LSA mentioned you could sew up a pick cozie like this weirdo did  -----> viewtopic.php?f=39&t=6516&p=54825#p54825
Just trace out the basic pick outline plus a little bit on an old t-shirt or other rag fabric and cut. Sew it together and slide it over the picks.

Nope, they dont have to be cut down, although they do rattle somewhat, but if you keep enough picks in there to where its a tight fit when the cap is on... it wont rattle.

At the moment I have seven slim handleless picks, a single southord half-diamond pick with handle, and two tension wrenches (a southord long and a southord double-ended) inside it and they fit pretty tight when the cap is put on so they dont rattle. It does seem a tad heavy though for a sharpie marker IF someone were to pick it up.

Neat idea - I need something to hold 3-4 picks that I can just slip in my pocket. Something like that may do the trick.

I like it! Reminds me of the similar hack where someone cut down their keys to fit in one handle of a mini-leatherman tool.

Re: Pick case made from a Sharpie marker

I made me a couple...

I found 2 chunky sharpies in my moms driveway... one had been run over and cracked... so I sprayed it with rubber...

in one I keep 2 rubber dipped picks and 3 tensors...

in the rubber dipped one I keep 5 undipped picks and 3 tensors...
real nice idea bro
I did add the foam to the bottom of these... but not to stop the jiggling... I added it because some picks would fall down in between these spokes in the bottom of the sharpie... while others would ride ontop of the spokes... i did not like the uneven look... so the foam filled the gaps between the spokes for me...

Re: Pick case made from a Sharpie marker

i have a similar sharpie pen case that i sometimes carry. i krazy glued a few neo magnets to the insides to keep the picks from rattling around and cut the ink insert down so its flush with the part the pulls out. i then taped over the ink insert to keep it from rubbing off on anything. and the best part is that the marker writes! really cool covert way to carry a decent amount of picks around..ill try an get some pictures up today.

Holds my 2 favorite picks, best rake and new tension wrench. What a top way to carry them.
