Re: Free .078 Music Wire

What is the temper on this wire?
Is this Stainless or good old carbon steel?
Very kind to offer this - so please don't take the above as "looking a gift horse in the mouth".
I just don't want to ask for something that I wouldn't be able to use :)

Tnx.

Re: Free .078 Music Wire

Ha! No worries. I am not too sure, someone else maybe able to answer specifically, but it is tough/hard as hell, damn near impossible to cut with wire snippers, and even the dremel cutting wheel takes a few seconds.

The label/barcode says:
KS Precision Metals
Made in the USA
Stock #505
.078 music wire (2mm)
~~~BARCODE~~~
6-14121-10505-8
Thanks for this.
THe key questions I wanted answered are 1) it's carbon steel so likely can be hardened fairly easily if the wire gets softened with heat. and 2) it is already spring tempered. I"ve had some spring tempered stainless steel that can't be rehardened after heating. It must be work hardened.
Thanks
Got my package of wire Can't wait to start working on some tension wrenchs
macgng; it's completely unnecessary to have ~15$ in keys for a 50¢ lock ... but we all do it anyway :P
Hey freek007 — if you have some wire left I’d love to take you up on the offer; happy to send something homebrew back in response? (:
Sure, just send PM me for the address, will need you to send me a SASE with 2 forever stamps (or 93 cents worth) since its "rigid" mail...
To all - There is plenty left, I will update post if I ever run out.
