So yeah, going to take this approach as it does seem the most logical –

Been having a look round a few sites and found pins come in different widths, yeah?
I’ll have to look into this further as they may not fit.
Spool pins from UKLP are only three quid, not too bad. No mushies and serrated tho.
Don't think I'll be needing them for awhile yet anyway.

I like the idea of removable core padlock as I believe they give ya something more substantial to hold on to whilst picking.

Right on! That's the lockpickers way, who needs money when you can have kickass locks and gear instead?

I don't know much about pin sizes, but for the majority of standard locks I'm pretty sure it's universal. If you get some spools from the site you can bet your ass they'll be compatible with any uk/euro lock anyway. Like I said though, if you get lucky and find an ABUS rim cylinder somewhere it'll have 4-5 spools in it. There are plenty of other brands obviously, but ABUS tend to use the standard kind of spools that you'll most commonly come across.

You'll find a lot of rim cylinders from Yale, ERA, and the occasional Union, but whether or not they have security pins is hit and miss depending on the model of the cylinder (which may not be obvious). Everything, and I mean everything, made by ABUS has spools in it. There are other manufacturers which use spools in all their locks like Iseo, Cisa, Asec and so on... but in the world of ebay all you ever see from them over here are euro cylinders. I have seen Asec rim cylinders but the chances of finding one are pretty slim.

I got myself a Master 2250d padlock with security pins........by christ i can get the fecker onto a false set then feel the pins that are tight and release the tw just the minutest bit and the god damn set pins all come tumbling down .

So then went back to the era 5 pin cylinder lock ......and i'll be damned if i can pick that one now . It gets frustrating especially when i did the lock before and managed 5-6 times straight ........but now cant.

Perseverance is the key ........on the master lock i get a lot of feedback through my pick and made my own tw from wiper blade, this was because the tw's in the goso set are so rigid, that i think i was putting too much tension on without realising it.

Cutwaway are great showpieces-especially when they are nicely sanded and polished. But the fact that you can see the pin motion tends to make for a visual distraction
if one is trying to feel the pins and pick by touch.

I am thinking about starting a cutaway collection. Could get expensive though.

I've run a cross a few on eBay and they went for hundreds of dollars.

Just a quick update about the locks I bought.

The two Abus 83/45 are soo nice.
Easy to take apart too, just a phillips screwdriver, unlike the master 6237.
Recommend for the new comer!
Taking the locks apart is easy, putting them back together can be a bit of a pain!
You wouldn’t believe the amount of time I spent on the floor looking for dropped pins!
NIGHTMARE!

The Master 6237 I’m not ready for.
The keyway is damn tight and to take it apart you need a special tool.
I have one so okay this end but just letting ya know.
The one I have says T15x50 – it’s not an Allen key!

The Abus 88/50 is a Disc Detainer lock and I’m sending it back as the ebay description said pin tumbler.
Luckily they said it’s a freepost address. Never had that off ebay before!
Nice lock tho if ya looking for a Disc lock...

I wouldnt recommend really cheap locks, can often be hard to spp as they dont give any feedback.
solomons list is a pretty good guideline
although some of those zone euros are pretty tough
