So, he got the lock pre-installed when he bought the door?!

That sounds like insanity to me.

Re: LOCK FAIL!!!

so installed properly you can "lock" it from the outside by turning the rose, but you cannot "unlock" it, correct?

See those kids standing by the lake...drop some napalm and watch them bake.

I believe thats the concept. The person at Menards was just a little unqualified to install the lock. I'm going back over this weekend to take it apart and see if I cant reverse the mechanism.

Re: LOCK FAIL!!!

cool design, but foiled in the end by users not reading manuals
That's all it takes to make a
FEATURE (of design)
into a
FAILURE (of epic proportions)

I once saw a presentation entitled "Physical Security: You're doing it wrong"
the presenter, at one point noted, that when dealing with construction workers, they will do exactly what the blueprint says,
and expect you to pay extra to fix the locks that were installed with the thumb-turn on the outside, because that was what the blueprint said.
It is foolish to think that any puzzle born of human ingenuity cannot be unraveled by the same (Someone whose name I have forgotten)

Re: LOCK FAIL!!!

This looks like the appropriate thread for this....

Image
No lockpicks or bolt cutters required... just a screwdriver. LoL
This always gives me a little laugh. And it happens more than you'd think.

Ok, really not the locks' fault, but we'll still classify this one as a fail :D
