Yale Bicentric reincarnated by Kwikset ???

Stumbled on this one today....

Reminds me of the Yale Bicentric double cylinder locks.

Re: Yale Bicentric reincarnated by Kwikset ???

I first saw them at a locksmith expo last summer, but I got the impression they'd been out for at least a few months prior to that, if not longer. The factory rep was pretty cool, he didn't have a spare one at the show, but about a week later I received a demo version of the lock in the mail from him.

Basically since the SmartKey can't be masterkeyed (at least not properly) it's their way around that shortcoming. It has an interesting gearing mechanism on the back to allow both plugs to turn the same tailpiece. You don't need to turn both to open the lock, either keyway will do it.

It's great for owners of multiple properties. One key for the owner takes the place of the traditional master key. Don't know if they'll be able to work out the engineering for knob and lever locks, though.
