Re: Members Say Hi
So far I have been fully immersed in trying to understand it's complexities and challenges!
My first set of "real" picks will be arriving this weekend and I'm feeling like a kid again waiting for Chrimbo!
So far I been using home made picks made from an old pair of spectacles! When I opened my 1st padlock just recently, I knew I had been biten by the picking bug!! What an amazing enjoyable experience and sense of achievement it was! Is it just me or do other ppl get that same feeling?
I dismantled my first Yale type lock yesterday, making all the usual rookie errors,(which of course I learnt from) but I'm struggling to put it back together and have already bend one spring and lost one driver pin! But hey.. what great enjoyment it was!!
I was going to ask advice on here about how to re-assemble it but have since read up further on it. I now know where I'm going wrong but still find it challenging and fiddly!!
Anyway, it'll be nice to get to know some of you eventually and I hope I can become a worthy member of your excellent forum!!
Thank in advance for any replies.
Best wishes. EB

You may spend a few quid on this, but nothing like what you'd spend (lose) gambling. I never had any luck, which is good, 'cos it means I don't do it.
I've always been interested in lockpicking, but only really started in 2012. Yeah, I can remember the feeling of opening a lock with a piece of metal other than the key for the first time.
I took a Yale apart, again for the first time, earlier this year. Actually seeing the size of the pins and how far they were apart made such a difference. Photos, however good, just aren't the same. I'd recommend any beginner to get a Yale rim cylinder and just take it apart.
I haven't put my Yale back together, but I can relate to what you've written about your experience with it. I can certainly see that happening to me! I'll do it one day - hey, I've already got a piece of 1/2'' dowel earmarked as a plug follower.

I'm trying to get started in the locksmith business by myself. Previously I worked with some guys, i hope to have the majority of the members of this community to get some help.
Thanks in advance.
