Hey-O from the midwest

Hello all,

I'm awfully new at this but got a heck of an intro an invitation from a long time enthusiast (Jeff)

I'm green as it gets with locks/picking so I've got a lot of questions about locks and mechanisms and, have an interest in playing with them and making 'um a hobby. Looks like this is the place to great place to start and learn though!

Welcome from Canada!
Lots to read, but ask away with your questions. I'll help if I can.

Re: Hey-O from the midwest

we should just tell these new guys about the 180degree bottom of the plug lockup at the first post and not wait till they run into it.

do not turn a deadbolt cylinder 180 degrees until you have the bottom edge of a straight shafted pick in there or the pins will drop into the empty space where the bottom of the key usually holds them out.
not true on all cylinders, but it will happen,
when it does, stick that straight pick in there and move em up out of the plug.

there, I answered your question before you even asked it. :???:

Thanks for the heads-up! I haven't gotten nearly that far into it yet but, when I do, that alarm will ring. Thanks, man.

And thanks all for the very warm welcomes. Looks like a great lot of green-horn friendly guys here that should ease me into the hobby.
