I recently purchased this lock off eBay without keys for 50 dollars. The question is, can I remove the core without the use of a control/ maintenance key or destructive forces. I would like to install a new medeco core and turn this into a working lock. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

All you need to do is pick the core in the counter clockwise direction to get it to control to remove the core.

Do you have the correct replacement core? These take a specially made KIK cylinder.

No I don't I did not even think about that. Are they even available anymore? Also is it more difficult to pick ccw? I have never successfully picked a medeco of any kind but I have spent hours and hours trying.

Depending on how you pick it can actually be easier to pic it CCW.

The keyway of that core is restricted so you can't get more keys unless you find some precuts. Replacement cores are also hard to find and can cost as much as you paid for the lock itself.

Great buy and good luck. Medecos are some of the hardest locks out there and the gents who say others have already spent 10000s of hours studying and picking Medecos lol
