WB SFIC Padlock

I just received my WB lock I purchased on eBay, it caught my interest because it has an interchangeable core and no keys, so I wanted to challenge myself to get it picked to control and have a key made, so far after a few attempts I haven't been able to pick it to control or operating, the core is giving next to no feedback just like my best core, I am not sure if this contains a best core or not, it has 7 pins, pictures posted below

Re: WB SFIC Padlock
Small format cores have a lot of variety to them. What there has not been a lot of variety on is the springs to use in the cores. I pulled this core and was rekeying it and thought I would snap a picture of what it looks like with copper springs after a little use. This is often why there isn't much feedback. Where I work we have switched to steel springs.
I will actually reuse steel springs if I know how long they have been in use. I won't reuse a copper spring as long as it was capped.

Re: WB SFIC Padlock
Since the spring usually gets crushed when punching out the pins in an SFIC, I always replace them.

Hahah Great find Twin. As I was reading your post I was asking myself now how did Jeff miss this on ebay and next thought was watch as I scroll down Jeff will be asking if you want to trade lol. I was close I think hahah.
Wow now that is an interesting sight. I never paid much attention to the springs but then again I only seen IC core apart in pictures. Thanks for the info gents.

MDC, that is interesting. I use the LAB Long IC springs which are copper, but I did see they now have stainless steel springs listed on their website.

Re: WB SFIC Padlock
My best core had a problem with one of the copper springs, it became pinched between one of the spool drivers and hole and bound up the stack, I fixed it by taking it all apart, without using one of the ic core tools, I did it the conventional way, never again haha

Jeff we have nearly 100 fuel centers we take care of. Once we switched to the "stainless" springs we noticed there are a lot fewer service calls at the fuel centers for cores not working correctly.
Re: WB SFIC Padlock
That is really good to know, MDC. Thanks for the advice.
