Schlag Primus Questions - Picking/Impressioning

I went to get some keys cut at a local lock shop and ended up buying a primus cylinder for the hell of it. I have read another post on the board about these being "unpickable", but wanted to get an idea as to who here has actually picked one. Additionally, I have the following questions:

1. Has anyone come up with a way to impression with a primus?
2. How would one approach picking a primus?

Thanks,

Pick it like you do other locks, set the pins, the finger pins are a pain in the ass since you have to rotate and lift the pins. The keyway is pretty narrow as well. I haven't picked mine fully pinned yet, the top pins aren't really a problem, it's the finger pins.

I have no idea about impressioning one, so maybe one of the more experienced guys can answer that.

I wrote this awhile back. Not sure I mentioned the Primus XP or not...
Schlage PRIMUIS basics

Farmer Freak has murdered quite a few of them with standard picks. I have picked a couple using a special tool to lift the finger pins simulanteously and SPP them to rotation. The Everest XP was the only one I did old school on camera.

Oh, and as far as impressioning you would use a key that has a pre-cut sidebar. Maybe FF has milled one to try, but usually it's less time consuming to pick or shim it to make a key.

:agree: And no I haven't tried without a pre-cut sidebar.

Tooly, you have any nice closeups of the business end of the sidebar tool?

Re: Schlag Primus Questions - Picking/Impressioning

I don't. The spacing is the same as the sidepins, the dips should be the width of the pins rotational range of motion. I think it was a piece of .025 HPC spring steel cut to just shy of the bottom depth to allow for a little wiggle room.
