Brinks 44m shrouded in 2

Ok, usually I try not to be this guy, but look what I did.
Image
Right out of the box in 1min 47 seconds to be exact.

I saw HallisChamber's pick a much larger brinks shrouded and when I saw this little brother at Wmart for 6 bucks I had to check it out. Usually the locks I get are second hand so they have grit and sticky plugs all kinds of crap to deal with. Picking this thing new out of the box was a dream.

So this post isn't completely unproductive I do have a question I want to ask. Should it be this easy? I think there are only 2 serrated pins and 4 spools. I thought since it is an American keyway I could get some spoorated and deep serrated nightmare pins. I can't crack it open to see for myself without drilling it. Can anyone who owns a couple brinks clue me in please? Brinks is a new brand for me. Thanks.

Tooly:

You're right, you can't gut it without drilling or otherwise tearing it apart. To be honest with you, I think it has to do with the bitting on the lock. I've seen some guys pick them quite easily. So I’m thinking that (i) if you are fairly proficient at picking serrated and spool pin combinations, and (ii) if the key bitting is not too radical, it will be fairly easy. Awol70 has a good vid on opening these locks, but to me American Shielded locks are demons spawned from 9th level of hell.

The Brinks that I have has a bitting of 272314.

As you can see from the picture of the key, the jump from the 1st - #2 cut pin, over the #7 cut pin and then the next #2 cut pin is a bitch. At least for me it is, anyways. The pins cut #’s 3,1, and 4 aren’t too hard.

I can get the false set, but then I hit a brick wall. I don’t know if it’s me, the lock, or those @#$%&** serrated pins – but I shit the bed royally when it comes to opening this damn lock!

I can open 1105’s and that little American barrel lock on my video – but this chrome bastard is gonna make me go postal one day. Over a year now, and I can't get it.

Might as well start drinking heavily - at least I can do that pretty well.

Re: Brinks 44m shrouded in 2

When I opened the box and saw the key I knew it would be hook friendly, but it doesn't appear to be easy biting. Mediumish?

I was so amp'ed I tried to make a vid, but I am limited to 1 min on my camera and after 4 tries 1min 14 is the fastest I got. It started to feel like cheating after I picked it that many times, so my enthusiasm for making a video vanished. I saw snor pick the abus out of the package and it just seemed like the easiest way to show you hadn't picked it a thousand times to practice.

Even as I type this I think I just cracked it under a minute. DAMNIT! All I was trying to do was feel the pins. There is definately the spool false set followed by the shallow click, then one more click as it sets at the shear line. Spoorated calling card. I still would like to know for sure. I'm gonna do some looking.

Honestly the fact that it is brand spankin' new is what I am gonna chalk it up to. It operates so smoothly the false sets are easy to get past. I'm just so used to practicing on gummed up beat to hell mud puddle locks this is a smooth sail by comparison.

I've got a kryptonite out in the bench I havn't ever picked without being so on I can use the force, and his brother was filled with dirt from a previous owner. Even after flushing it I have never got that f'ing thing open. Just talking about it is making me want to power drink. I'm gonna go try my hand at it before I come to far down off my power trip.

Thanks for the response.

Re: Brinks 44m shrouded in 2

I am considering buying another one just to make it happen. This one is the first brand new lock I have ever bought for the sole purpose of picking. I couldn't resist the chrome, and now I am hooked on the good stuff. Alas I am poor and I doubt I'll be able to justify buying another one so soon. If I pick it in under a minute I'll post it just so I won't soley be an observer, but it won't be the same...

So, I got the vid at under a minute. It was my sixth time picking it and my 4th time on camera. I'm lit as hell so forgive the attitude. I can't post because I can't log on to youtube on this computer, but the video is uploaded there if you care to look for ToolyMcgee on Youtube.

Goodnight,

Nice work Tooly. I got one the other day too and was a little disappointed at how easy it was to open. I did luck out on the biting, but I was expecting the mechanics to be a little more challenging. Great lock to make you feel like a badass though :)

Kai: I think the machining is really good and I like this little guy, but the spoorated pins make it feel like a much looser lock.

Snor: Thanks man. Still bummed it took me so many tries to get in under a minute. The next time I buy a new lock I'm setting up the camera. You think anyone wants to see a 15 min vid of me cussing at an American 5200?

Josh: Why is that little dude shaking his sock at me? :geek:

I guarantee the shirt will come back on real quick when the green guy on the "Smilies "board next to him changes wanking positions from righty to lefty.

Which then begs the question: Why does the smiley guy on the far left always smile when the green guy wanks in his direction?

I mean, hey - I try to keep an open mind about all this stuff. You know what I'm talking about: live and let live, give peace a chance, Kumbaya, etc. But damn, I'd get a little tired of some little green bastard wanking on my head 24/7.

That's just not right - unless you're some kind of sick out-of-work porn star, or something.

But hey, I'm afraid that's just me....Mr. Sensitive

Re: Brinks 44m shrouded in 2

Wow. I was also curious why smiley Goku was waving the LOL sign. I mean I get the lol sign, but why is it Goku?

I am sure no one ever intended for anyone to observe the smilies behaviour so closely. In fact they were probably counting on it... After further inspection I believe guy smiley is happy about the 24/7 wanking. Look at that smile. Shirt waving smiley is a sicko voyeur and since he has no body what he is waving over his head is in fact a towel to toss to happy smiley number 1.

It all screams subliminal advertising for transgender porn! How do they let these twisted creeps get away with it. I, for one, am appauled.

It's all m0ose's fault....ever since he posted pictures of himself in a dress, the moral standards around here have gone down faster than a $20 hooker on a Friday night.....
