So there were 3300 of those made, mine has that N6 casting mark as well. Here's that paper you were reading:
http://www.antique-padlocks.com/shared/ ... ory_01.pdf I've always been fascinated with these locks and the different model numbers and revision history. Been trying to write a paper about them for a couple years now, but life happens and here we are 4 years later.. lol. I hope to use some of the info and numbers from that paper in my own paper (proper citation and credit given obviously)
As for rarity, I think we should always appreciate being able to own one of these, 3000 is not that small of a number, but based on the fact that many of these were destroyed or thrown away, its nice to see that several hundred of them are still around on ebay and in private hands.
I hope to get back to my research this Fall and get something put together for everyone to enjoy. It's hard to gather facts on some of this stuff, and I hate to fill the paper with bad facts or just plain fluff and opinion, but even if it's just a bunch of entertaining photos and lock breakdowns, I'm sure people will still enjoy it.
Let me know what ya'll would like to see in such a paper, I'll try to include it.
