Those last few pictures really helped me see the operation of the control lug. It looks like the control key only has to turn about 15 degrees ??.

For a guy calling himself a "hobbyist" you certainly have a tremendous amount of knowledge/equipment. Tell the truth now - consultant for the CIA?

Correct. The control key only turns around 15 degrees.

Have no choice but to deny being affiliated with the CIA. Was considering a job as an instructor at Johnson and Wales, though.

P.S. - For those not familiar with the culinary field, CIA is the Culinary Institute of America (located in Hyde Park, New York, USA), and Johnson and Wales is another school respected in the culinary (chef) field.

Just a quick note,

Our shop just started using 30T master pins as caps, or 25T or whatever color you like best. They seat much better in the core and don't pop out as much as standard caps. We love it.

Really great stuff there Gordon! Very interesting for me for I still know very little about Best cores.
I've not yet been struck with the motivation to thoroughly understand these. But certainly a general
knowledge should help in becoming more proficient in picking them. So thanks again for your efforts.

This site has a whole mess of pdf's on I-Core cylinders. More than I need right now but may be interesting to serious folks:
