Sometimes, for whatever reason, a lock just wont open.
I carry a good amount of replacement locks, but no way can have every brand, size, shape, and finish.
So if I need to drill , I can be sure to secure the property and occupants. The job may require to special order their lock and a return visit.
I have a long laundry list of procedures.
Walk the property(usually unlocked door or window.)
look for the hidden key
Garage door
what kind of locks(dead bolts vs knob).
find weakest link in security and attack.
Bypass (slip latch, under door tools)
Bumping
Picking
raking rocking zipping
EPG: electric pick guns
Snap gun
Single pin picking
I'm going to get in.
Just a matter of time.
I try not to do any damage.
If I do, it has to be repairable.
Thanks guys for your help and encouragement. This week has been just as crazy as last Sunday when I posted this. It seems like it's been just one problem after another. Every day I had at least one job that became a major issue, and a couple days this week I ended up working about 12 hours (I might post more about those jobs later). I hope this week goes better.
jharveee - Is that the order you typically follow? I typically start out raking, pick gunning, then bypassing, ect.
I did try to unscrew the cylinder, but I didn't have the blanks to impression it.
just1pick+open - That's a good idea, I should get some composite keyway cylinders on my truck.
rai - It was cold, and I'm sure it didn't help it was getting late and I hadn't eaten lunch. I used Houdini lock lubricant on the locks before I tried picking.
I get the "on TV they would have it open already" comment a lot. Usually once they say it, they realize how stupid their remark is, and comment "That's probably fake isn't it?"
There's always those people who want to stand inches away from you to watch. They think they'll figure out the "magic" by seeing what you do. I even had a man climb into my van behind me to watch (I made him leave). Another time, I had bad gas, and my customer found out what happens when you stand right over top of me.
