I tried to use a soda can once, and I can verify that they are too thick. It ended up jamming up the plug once it was past a few pins. Luckily it was a cheap cylinder.
Howdy!

Really, you actually shimmed a couple of pins with one?? I am gonna have to get a soda can and see, they must be making them a lot thinner than they did back in the old days!!

Haha, yeah it was a Shasta can. The main problem was that once it jammed up, I tried to take it out and it tore, thus making it stuck for good.
Howdy!
