How to open this old safe

Hi all,

We bought an old house with this safe. We have a possible combination, but the safe won't open. Do you have any idea what position the key should be in? How would we get the safe open?

The letters of your vombination could be written in the wrong order but you would normally go top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right. The letters at 12 o'clock.
Try top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right.
Try all 4 possibilities.

Re: How to open this old safe

Looks like a old pierre haffner french safe they used a 4 dial with a bramah lock and key
and May even have used the cotterill on the earliest ones.
On later safes the Round key and lock was used that had differing grove depths cut down the stem.

They Made safes in wood and steel and are real expensive
This one looks to have a standard lever type key however in pic.

Possible it's even a mathys declerck from Belgium as it as the square case and lockable lid
The French safes I've seen usually have the round case around dials as in pic on this topic
