Custom Pinned Schlage KIK

BIG THANKS to Tooly for sending this lock to me!
This is a lock that was custom pinned by FarmerFreak, sent to Tooly, then sent to me. It has had some really cool modifications made to it and was a very fun pick! So, here are the pics...
IMG_4422.JPG

The chambers in the plug are threaded...
The Plug.JPG

The key pins are serrated. Also, notice the ASSA spools and the small springs that go through the brass inserts which are captive in the bible and are also spring loaded by the larger springs above them.
Guts.JPG

In the next picture the front chamber is loaded with everything except the driver pin...you can see how far out of the bible the skinny spring sits. For demonstration, the second chamber has a driver resting on the captive brass insert without the skinny spring that would normally be driving it.

Here is the key as well as the Peterson Pry Bar and home brew laminated hook I used to open it with.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

It was a real pain at first. Those spools alone are tough and with the extra mods that been made to the lock it poses a real challenge just because it feels very different than a 'normal' lock. It took several times picking it before I got real efficient at it.

This is one heck of a frankenlock, FarmerFreak obviously put a lot of time into this one. He has quite the mind for changing things up when it comes to locks.

That's a cool idea, threading the top of the plug's holes to catch the serrated and spooled pins. I'm going to have to try that... What I don't like Is the extra set of interior drilled top pins with rear KIK springs inside them, which is obviously pointless to any aspect of cylinder security. It looks cool but does nothing special. lol....

Yeah, it definitely make it interesting...lots of clicks. Its especially hard if you don't know to start with that they are threaded lol!

They actually do affect picking. Look at the fourth picture down in my post (The one that has the cylinder in the vice.) The drivers meet up with the spring loaded brass inserts before they pass the shear line. So, at first only the small spring is resisting the lifting of the driver but shortly thereafter it comes in contact with the brass insert which is driven by the bigger spring which adds more resistance. Make sense?

What jruther2 wrote is just a side benefit. They are in there specifically to stop bumping/pickgunning attempts. Since you would hit the key pin which in turn shoots the first driver pin upwards. It then hits a larger pin and transfers whatever motion it has to the larger driver pin while the first driver pins starts to be pushed back down. (all while the first driver pin stays blocking the shear line) ...Does that make sense. If it doesn't, I blame it on posting first thing in the morning. :)

Re: Custom Pinned Schlage KIK

Oh I missed that and also I never bump locks or use a pick gun ... lol. Well that's a neat idea regardless, now it makes sense why it's done. good work man.
