This is cool, I would like to take the challenge

I'm not sure which lock to use though, I have 3 locks with removable cores:

- American Lock 50 (4 spool serrated drivers, 1 serrated driver, 5 serrated key pins)
- Yale P210 (4 spools (various lengths), 5 pin total)
- Yale P300 (5 spools (various lengths), 6 pin total)

I order them from easy to hard: AL50, P210, P300

But with the AL50 I would probably get the most points as it's an annoying bitting and the security pins weigh more then the Yales. Yet the Yales are much harder to pick, especially the P300.
If I'm lucky I can tape picking the Yale P300 in 1.5 minutes, while the AL50 will be around 30 seconds if I really focus on it.

The competition says "pick your hardest lock", but in this case, wouldn't I be stupid to pick the P300?

I picked quite a few locks the last months, but I still feel like a newbie, so forgive me for asking

You'd be stupid if you didn't. Remember, you get 2 bonus points for the fact that it is a 6 pin lock. I'd go with the 6 pinner - since the 2 bonus points MIGHT make up for an easy key bitting - but it's your call.

Lets start the contestant list right here with a copy paste format at least. I want to know who is competing too.

To anyone who thinks they would try an easier lock to make a faster video in an attempt to get ahead, or is unsure if a keyway's difficulty is going to be taken into consideration. Remember the contest is being judged by experienced pickers who know what's what. If it was me, I would notice something unusual or more difficult that took a little extra time over another more common lock cracked in a heartbeat no matter the bitting. You want to do your best to challenge your limitations so you present a good challenge to others. Not hot dog a lock you have picked a million times.

Just wondering:

The contest starts at the end of this month, does this mean that before that date you are not allowed to:
- attempt the target lock?
- make the video?
- post the video as your entry?

Just want to avoid to misinterpret the rules

You can do anything you want - but you cannot post your entry for the moderators to judge - until I have posted the appropriate competition entry section.

That has not been done.

Commencing June 1st, I will set up the "OFFICIAL KEYPICKING CONTEST SECTION" in a separate post. It is in that post that contestants will be permitted to submit their entries (with YouTube link), for review by the Mods.

If you want to go ahead and pick your lock, shoot it on vid, etc., that's fine. But you can't officially enter it until I have the section set up for it. 8-)

Don't let that stop you. See if a friend has a good camera and will agree to record you while you do your work - or try holding the pins as close as possible to the camera. Adapt and improvise!

For a camera with no macro function... if you have a good magnifying glass you should be able use it to create another level of magnification besides what the lenses in your camera can produce. Glare is a problem you can deal with possibly by toilet paper tube or a small light shade. Getting the camera to focus through the glass might take some experimenting, but just to add clarity to the video so you can see the pins more clearly after you have the lock apart, I think with some creativity this might do the trick and still meet the qualifications for one continuous shot.
