Yale Peanut Rim Cylider

This is an old Yale Peanut rim cylinder a customer gave to me with no key. I found an old original key and made a key for it. One of the chambers had no pin in it so I had to use an old Ford pin because standard and BEST pins were both to large in diameter.

Close-up of the pins, number one looks like it used to be serrated but has worn down over the years.

Great pictures Kokomo. I especially like seeing the worn out serrated pin, very cool!

Yale cylinders often have that style of pin in it. Very fun and quite frustrating at times. I usually see them referred to as tapered spool pins or spoolshroom pins. Also, they come in different lengths.
Howdy!

Yes it was used on a house until the day the customer brought it into the shop. He wanted it keyed to a Kwikset key so I traded him a kwikset rim cylinder for the Yale. It was used on a standard Night Latch!

High security then eh? :P

Wonder why they made cylinders smaller than their regular ones, seems a bit pointless if you ask me. What's it like to pick? That keyway looks pretty forgiving!

Solomon, don't let the 4 pins fool you or the keyway, these can be hard as hell to pick, I am no pro at Yale anyway, they are all tough for me, but those special Yale security pins give these locks there own personallity. My sisters old ranch house has 2 of these on the old doors that go into the 2 porches that she has, they have since been painted over and are non functional, I wish I could have them, no luck on that though!
I have been in the souls of many women, but I always end up on the soles of there shoes.

Peanut cylinder is just what I have always heard the small cylinders called. After some time on google, I found I was wrong. Peanut cylinder refers to a cylinder which is 3/4" in diameter. Here are a couple links for you to look at.
